Cloud Director service platform
VMware Cloud Director is a hybrid cloud platform that integrates various cloud environments and on-premise vSphere-based data centers, offering customers flexibility in configuration. Users can quickly create new vApps, virtual machines, catalogs, and NSX network services. The Cloud Director API enables automation of management operations and is compatible with Infrastructure as Code software like Ansible and Terraform.io.
Users can be assigned different privileges, groups, and roles based on their needs. The platform supports secure two-factor authentication using AzureAD, Cisco DUO, RSA SecureID, or other SAML and OAuth-based solutions. Its multisite feature connects different locations using services in various data centers, and it's integrated with the vRealize Operations Tenant App for monitoring and statistical data.
Additional services include integrated Veeam long-term backup solutions, VMware Tanzu Kubernetes as a service, S3 object storage, and App Launchpad for managing templates and containers.
Infrastructure
Our cloud service, located in our Estonian state of art data center, operates on three separate HPE Synergy 12000 Frame systems for optimal availability, with all components duplicated. Each system has six redundant power supplies connected to distinct UPS units for uninterrupted operation during power outages.
We use HPE Synergy 480 G10 servers with Intel® Xeon® Gold 6142 2.6 GHz processors and next-generation NVMe Gen4 storage systems capable of handling millions of IOPS. These systems are connected to a redundant 32Gb FC SAN network.
Our VMware vSphere Enterprise Plus software-defined data center offers reliability, efficiency, and robust security. The WaveCom cloud service operates continuously, even during server maintenance and updates. Virtual machines are automatically and seamlessly transferred to another hostserver using VMware vMotion during maintenance, and in case of a server failure, they are launched on other servers in the cluster, preventing data loss.
NSX-T Network services
VMware NSX Network Virtualization and security platform delivers a Software-Defined Data Center (SDDC) experience. The updated NSX-T uses the GENEVE encapsulation protocol for better latency in distributed networks and a two-tiered routing model for low latency in multi-site networks. NSX-T combines network and security functions for automated management of zero trust model networks and services. It features an intelligent vertical Edge gateway firewall and a horizontal distributed firewall. Security policies can be applied automatically to all tagged cloud applications.
NSX-T Edge Gateway enables SNAT and DNAT functions for internet connectivity, while L2 and IPSEC VPNs provide secure access. The integrated AVI Advanced Load balancer directs external traffic using various algorithms.
Our VMware ESXi host servers are connected to an 80GB network linked to duplicated Nexus 9300 100 Gbit/s core network switches. Cisco ASR 9902 routers duplicate the core network and balance traffic. They're located in different data centers and connected to various transit partners like Arelion, Cirtic Telecom and RTIX with 100Gig links Our network, protected against DDoS and congestion attacks. Also it uses the Cisco HSRP protocol to ensure uninterrupted traffic. All virtual machines have a 20 GbE network connection to both Estonian and international networks.
Cloud Director Availability
Cloud Director Availability is a user-friendly tool for backup, replication, migration, and disaster recovery, offering protection against viruses and failures. It manages and automates virtual machine and vApp replications across data centers, including local to cloud and cloud-to-cloud workflows.
This service allows restoration of environments with a single click, even during a server room failure. It can extend on-premise VMware systems to our Cloud data center, and includes an L2 VPN solution for connecting cloud networks.
The service enables orchestrated recovery and migration operations for multiple virtual machines and devices. VMware's technology enables replications to our offsite data center at client-determined frequencies. In emergencies, the offsite data center becomes the primary one.
Multiple RPO (recovery point objective) rules can be set for process restoration. At the offsite location, an entire data center or a single virtual machine can be restored. The "Rewind" feature allows virtual machines to be reverted back in time. Once a suitable recovery point is found, the virtual machine can be restored in offsite datacenter and later relocated back onsite.
In 2021, AS WaveCom received the Disaster Recovery as a Service Provider accreditation from VMware, a distinction held by only 40 VMware partners globally.
Tanzu Kubernetes clusters

TKG Standard Runtime caters to end-users and developers, offering advanced features and simplified cluster lifecycle management. It streamlines operations, eliminating the need for specialized knowledge for Kubernetes clusters. During cluster creation, all essential steps, including network configuration, security setup, load balancing, and resource allocation, are performed automatically. The NSX platform provides context-aware security policies for managing virtual routers and firewall rules, ensuring top-tier network security.

App Launchpad
App Launchpad, a feature of VMware Cloud Director, provides end users with a validated application environment. It showcases VMware Marketplace applications, including Bitnami's preconfigured ones, with user guides available on Bitnami's website. It targets developers, allowing them to quickly launch virtual machines or Kubernetes container applications. The interface displays a variety of applications, including LAMP, Nginx, Tomcat, Node.js, Grafana, Jenkins, RabbitMQ, Cassandra, GitHub, SQL servers, and various developer tools. Users can easily search, select, and launch applications, adjusting configurations like location, IP addresses, network settings, firewall rules, and startup scripts. Container applications can be deployed by connecting to a Kubernetes cluster and adjusting advanced settings if needed using the YAML editor. App Launchpad also offers operating system templates, accessible from the Cloud Director Libraries page.
Fast and scalable S3 service
S3 (Simple Storage Service) is a web-based cloud storage known for speed and scalability, providing affordable online backup and archiving. VMware Cloud Director uses Object Storage Extension (OSE) to manage data availability, security, and access control. It integrates the S3 interface, allowing users to store objects via a web interface, S3 APIs, file managers, or file explorer software. Users can create directories for vApps, virtual machines templates, ISO files, etc. OSE (2.2) supports backup and restore configuration and data of Kubernetes clusters.
Data in S3 is organized into protected buckets. OSE uses versioning to track changes and recover deleted objects. File versioning compares content and metadata attributes with the most recent upload. Tenant administrators can control user access to data within buckets using access roles and ACLs (Access Control Lists).
WaveCom uses VMware Cloud Director OSE to offer S3 protocol-based storage space using a 5-node high availability and highly scalable software-defined storage system (CEPH). It provides parallel data download speeds of 1.0-1.5GiB/s and upload speeds of about 700 MiB/s. The primary value of an S3-type service is affordable tiered cloud storage, ensuring efficient storage of sensitive data without unnecessary latency. It maintains an instant standby secondary data store and is three times more cost-effective than NVMe storage.
Veeam backups solution
Our Cloud Director Availability solution uses VMware vSphere replication technology for efficient virtual machine replication for up to 1-2 weeks. For longer periods, we recommend the Veeam backup solution, offering unlimited storage. Combining backup and replication enhances service fault tolerance. Our backup repositories now have immutability, protecting against ransomware attacks, tampering, or deletion by preventing modifications or removal of backup files for a customer-specified period. We use SSD repositories for up to one-month backups and SSD/SAS hybrid storage for longer durations. Managed through the VMware Cloud Director environment, our user-friendly solution allows customers to handle their virtual server backups easily. Backups are performed periodically, using a "snapshot" approach that minimizes network and disk array load and reduces backup operation time. Customers can restore a single file or an entire virtual machine as needed.
