Environmental Responsibility
Our approach includes the implementation of circular economy principles, encompassing equipment enhancement, reuse, and proper disposal. We also optimize energy costs by using centralized infrastructure management and control based on need-based consumption. Our cloud services promote a circular economy by extending the life cycle of hardware through virtualization. This allows for efficient use of physical resources, reducing the need for new hardware production and waste quantities.
We are proud to be leaders in green IT innovation, simultaneously helping our clients and partners reduce their carbon footprint.
What steps have we taken so far?
- AS WaveCom exclusively uses green energy in its data center
- Our backup generators run on biodiesel
- Cooling systems are set up to operate energy-efficiently, using free cooling technology and standby backup systems
- We have joined the VMware Zero Carbon program, focusing on sustainable operation of cloud services and the use of green energy
- We offer future-oriented cloud services that use self-scaling microarchitecture to efficiently adjust workload as needed.
- Our cloud service's spare and excess host servers automatically go into “Standby” mode, minimizing energy usage
- In server services, we implement operating system-driven CPU power management to optimize energy consumption according to workload
- Since 2016, our private servers have used low-voltage processors, saving approximately 30% energy
- Since 2005 we have implemented circular usage, where servers and other hardware go through several usage cycles from cloud infrastructure and private server rental services to donation to educational institutions or return to the manufacturer
- We primarily source products and services from environmentally friendly partners, continually raising sustainability standards.
- We are a paperless company and redirect packaging and pallets for reuse
- In 2024 we successfully implemented the ISO 14001 environmental management system standard.
Implementation of ISO 14001 Standard
- ISO 14001 is an international standard that defines the requirements for an environmental management system and provides a framework for organizations to develop, implement, maintain, and continuously improve their environmental management system. ISO 14001 helps organizations achieve their environmental objectives through a systematic and continuously improving approach, ensuring efficient use of resources and reduction of environmental impacts.
Goals for the Near Future
- In 2024, we have started developing new automation to better manage our climate systems, which will reduce the energy usage needed for cooling. Additionally, we have begun designing a project to use the heat generated from the data center to heat the Endla 16 business building. Measure is due in 2024.
Overall, both measures will reduce the energy consumption needed for cooling by approximately 20% and lower the average PUE (Power Usage Effectiveness) of the data center, which is currently 1.4, to about 1.3. - At the end of 2024 or beginning of 2025, we introduce new UPS systems in our Data Center that will increase energy efficiency from the current 93% to 97%. It will help to increase PUE (Power Usage Effectiveness) to 1.25.
Social Responsibility
Our employees are our greatest asset. We are committed to creating a diverse, inclusive, and supportive work environment. This environment fosters social responsibility, respects labor laws, and follows best practices. We believe that ensuring the rights and well-being of employees is integrated into all of our company's activities.
- We are committed to treating our employees with dignity, respect, fairness, and equality.
- It is important for us to create an environment that values employee development, as this is key to our company's success.
- We continually work towards promoting equal opportunities for all employees, regardless of their race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, or other backgrounds, taking into account the organization's security, qualifications, and regulatory requirements.
- We are focused on recruiting, promoting, and retaining a diverse workforce and promoting a culture of inclusiveness.
- We conduct development discussions every six months to set new goals and plan training, with a salary increase every six months upon achieving goals.
- We continuously enhance our employees' skills through ongoing training, with an annual training volume of 500–1000 hours.
- Employee health and well-being are important to us, therefore, we provide private medical insurance to our employees.
- We do not favor night shifts or overtime, as our systems can be maintained during the day due to the highly redundant technology we use.
- We offer flexible working hours, which allow employees to plan their own time and deal with personal or family-related important matters.
- We provide employees with a significantly longer five-week vacation than mandated by legislation.
- We invest significantly in ensuring the security of our infrastructure, which guarantees data protection and privacy. This commitment to data security is part of our social responsibility, thereby protecting sensitive information important to stakeholders.
