We made a green leap by joining the VMware Zero Carbon Committed initiative
In today's rapidly evolving business environment, AS WaveCom took the lead, being the first Estonian company to join the VMware Zero Carbon Committed cloud partner program.
WaveCom is committed to sustainability and aims to minimize the environmental impact of its IT operations. The company has also initiated the implementation of ESG (Environmental, Social, and Corporate Governance) program standards.
VMware Zero Carbon Committed is part of VMware's broader initiative with the goal of achieving near-zero carbon emissions across the entire company's operations by 2030. The program aims to provide companies with the opportunity to move towards greener IT while contributing to the global reduction of carbon emissions.
Benefits of joining the Zero Carbon Committed program include:
- Environmentally Friendly IT: Participants adopt measures to reduce the environmental impact of their IT operations, contributing to carbon neutrality.
- Innovation and Efficiency: Carbon-neutral companies are often more innovative and efficient, adding value to their business operations.
- Flexibility: The Zero Carbon Committed movement helps companies adapt to rapidly changing business environments, making them more flexible and resilient.
Additional information about the program's goals and preferences is available on the VMware website.
Steps Taken to Date:
- WaveCom uses exclusively green energy in its data center. Backup generators run on biodiesel. Cooling systems are configured to operate sustainably (free cooling and redundancy standby mode).
- Future-oriented and self-scaling microarchitecture solutions that use power only as needed (On Demand).
- The entire cloud service computing power operates automatically in "On Demand" mode. Idle host servers are turned off and automatically switch back on when needed.
- Private servers have been using low-voltage processors since 2016 (energy savings ~30%).
- Our servers and other hardware are used in multiple cycles; initially, the latest generation servers for cloud services eventually transition to mid-level server services and, finally, are returned to manufacturers.
- Joined the VMware Zero Carbon program and initiated the implementation of the ESG program.
"Joining the VMware Zero Carbon Committed program is a significant step towards sustainability in the Estonian business environment," said Kristian Liivak, CEO of AS WaveCom.
