If you are not interested in using templates or ISO installation media provided by WaveCom, then you can create your own ISO, OVA / OVF installation media directories by using VMware Cloud system. These can later be used to create virtual machines (VM-s) or can be mounted as a CD-drive.
To create a virtual machine from ISO media file, go to "Data Centers -> Compute -> Virtual Machines -> New VM".
New window opens up. To create a VM from ISO-file, in the section "Type" select "New". Otherwise you’ll only be able to create a new VM from templates provided by WaveCom. In the section "Boot image" you can find the ISO-file/files which were previously added to the ISO, OVA/OVF installation media directory. According to the type of ISO-file choose the correct operating system.
In the section "Select a Size" you can choose between "Pre-defined Sizing Options"(see the image below) and "Custom Sizing Options". The latter one provides you with the opportunity to define the volumes for CPU and RAM. Do not exceed your resources, otherwise the VM will not start. Volumes could be raised later as well. It’s recommended to disable "Hot add" option for high capabilities. On average, the "Hot-add" option reduces CPU performance by 7%.
"Storage" section uses faster SSD-policy by default. If you are using directories, then it’s recommended to order cheaper policy (VCLOUD-TIER-2-SSD1). Size of the disk must be dfined as well. In this case, "Medium" option was chosen, which is 32GB.
In the "Networking" section, it is recommended to use the VMXNET3 adapter type. It’s also recommended that you use "Static IP Pool" and choose the first free IP assigned to you or choose "Manual IP" and assign the IP you wish from free IP-s assigned to you. In both cases, the network settings for the template operating system will be configured automatically and the newtork will be operational when the VM is powered on. If you select DHCP, then the DHCP service must be set up beforehand, otherwise the VM network will not work. Keep in mind that DHCP is not supported if choosing "Internet" under network settings. DHCP can be used for isolated network, which must be previously defined under "Networking -> Networks". For routed network, DHCP can be set up: "Data Centers -> Networking -> Edge Gateways".
After setting up all the needed parameters, press "OK".
Now the VM is ready for use. Once the VM is powered on, you can open the console and monitor the boot process by clicking the VM Console button (All Actions -> VM Console -> Launch Web Console).
NOTE! Don't forget to install "VMware Tools" (Actions -> Install VMware Tools).
